Joe Hachem
Joseph (Joe) Hachem was born 3 November, 1966, in Lebanon. In 1972, he and his family moved to Melbourne, Australia. On July 16, 2005, he won the World Series of Poker Main Event, outlasting the largest field in WSOP history, 5,619 players, and winning $7.5 million (USD). Joe Hachem won his entry fee to the WSOP main event playing at Pokerstars.com online poker room and was the 3rd straight PokerStars entry to win the WSOP main event.
The winning starting hand was 7c 3s, one of the weakest hands in hold'em. However, after calling a pre-flop raise from $300,000 to $700,000, the flop came 6h 5d 4d, giving Hachem a straight. When the turn card brought the As, his opponent Steve Dannenmann made the top pair, with an up-and-down straight draw, with his starting hand of Ad 3c. Hachem bet, Dannenmann raised, Hachem moved all-in and was called. In the end, Dannenmann could only tie if the river brought a 7. The river card was the 4c giving Hachem the 2005 WSOP championship and the bracelet.
A million dollars changes my life, let alone 7.5 million, it changes everything. --Joe Hachem
