Johnny Chan

Johnny Chan sets the bar for poker professionals. He has won 10 World Series of Poker Championship bracelets and is tied with Doyle Brunson for the record.  He shot to fame after winning the championship event of the WSOP $10,000 buy-in main event two consecutive years, 1987 and 1988. His second victory, in 1988, is legendary: He lost the biggest pot in the history of the tournament, then came back to take the title against Erik Seidel.

A videotape of the 1988 WSOP final heads up match is featured in the movie Rounders, in which Johnny Chan makes a cameo appearance. He followed up his back to back championships by finishing in 2nd place to Phil Hellmuth in 1989. Chan is all around poker knowledgeable having won championships in Holdem, Omaha, 7 Card Draw and 7 Card Stud. Chan is known for keeping a "lucky" orange in front of him on the table, and after the second consecutive WSOP title other players began bringing fruit to the table in hopes of increasing their luck.

In 2002, Johnny Chan was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Nicknamed by the pundits as "The Great Wall of China" and "The Orient Express" Johnny Chan is also one of the most approachable and well-liked of former World Champions.

I like to attack. Not too many players try to bluff me. It there is going to be any bluffing or stealing at the table, I'm going to be the one doing it. --Johnny Chan
