Jesse Alto
Jesse Alto was a great and well known poker player when he entered his most recognizable moment in the 1976 World Series of Poker. In heads up holdem action against the eventual winner, the great champion Doyle Brunson, he did everything right in the final hand, only to lose against unlikely odds. In that final hand, Doyle Brunson held his famous T♠ 2♠ against Jesse Alto's A♠ J♥. Alto instanty raised, and Brunson called. The flop came A♥ J♠ T♥ – two pairs for Alto and one for Brunson. Alto bet the pot, while Doyle moved all-in with his 10's. Alto called.
The turn brought 2♣, giving another pair to Brunson, who remained dominated by Altos two pairs. And the unlikely then followed, a 10 hit on the river. Doyle Brunson had hit runner-runner on the turn and the river to make a full house. In 1976, it was winner take all and while Brunson had solidified $220.000 in prize money, unfortunately, Alto got nothing. |
