Russ Hamilton
Russ Hamilton is a professional poker player. Hamilton was a bookie and an oddsmaker in Detroit, MI. He moved to Las Vegas in 1984 and was initially successful at gambling and poker. In 1994, Hamilton won the main event of the World Series of Poker, overcoming Hugh Vincent and winning the $1,000,000 prize. Because it was the silver (25th) anniversary of the WSOP, he also won his weight in silver. A large man, that extra was worth over $26,000. During the later stages of the tournament, the crowd cheered for "Big Russ" to win it all. Hamilton primarily plays the larger Las Vegas poker tournaments. He also plays high stakes golf against other amateurs where shoots in the seventies, a very strong score for an amateur. |
