Hal Fowler

Hal Fowler was a relative unknown when he won the 1979 World Series of Poker main event. He is considered the first non-professional player to become poker's World Champion. In the 1979 WSOP, at a final table that had over $500,000 in chips and included Johnny Moss, Bobby Baldwin, and other great professional players, his chip stack shrunk to less than $2,000 at one point. Somehow, he outlasted them all and Fowler's 1979 win is considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of the WSOP.
