Doyle Brunson

Doyle  “Texas Dolly” Brunson has been playing for many years and is one of the most accomplished players in the game. Doyle is one of only two players to win ten bracelets from the World Series of Poker. Sharing that accomplishment with Johnny Chan. Doyle remains successful at the highest cash games, and has been playing the game for about a half of century. Doyle's tournament accomplishments are staggering.  His ten  World Series of Poker bracelets show his total knowledge of the poker over a variety of games, including 1976 Deuce to Seven Draw, 1977 Seven-Card Stud Split, 1978 Seven Card Stud, 1979 Mixed Doubles, 1991 No Limit Holdem, 1998 Seven Card Stud, 2003 H.O.R.S.E, and two World Series of Poker main event titles in 1976 and 1977. Brunson's nickname, "Texas Dolly", came from the incorrect reading of his name by Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, and it stuck.

Brunson has the honor of having a Texas Hold'em hand named after him: a Ten and a Two of any suit. It was named after him after he won the No Limit Hold 'Em event at the World Series of Poker two years in a row with them (1976 and 1977), in both cases completing a full house. The 1977 WSOP final table was the second time when Doyle Brunson won the pot with his legendary T-2 hand. At the pre-flop, he was sitting with T♠ 2♥, and Bones Berland was dealt 8♥ 5♣. It seems that both players had bad hands, but they both decided to play them by limping in at the start. The flop came Td 8♠ 5♥. Now both players had pairs, only Brunson had a better one and berland had two of them. Once again, both players checked. The turn brought 2♣ and a second pair for Brunson. Brunson bet, Berland moved all-in and Brunson called. T♣ hit on the river and Brunson's lucky hand had made a full house for the second straight time at WSOP Main Event.

New players can find all sorts of information on poker, but most people consider Doyle's book, Super System, the Bible of poker. While always a favorite among other players, as television has increased its coverage of poker, Doyle has found himself front and center of camera crews everywhere.

In 1988, Doyle Brunson was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Try to decide how good your hand is at a given moment. Nothing else matters. Nothing!
--Doyle Brunson
