Chris Ferguson
Chris “Jesus” Ferguson is the 2000 world poker champion. He has won six WSOP gold bracelets in his distinguished poker career, which dates back over the past decade. Ferguson earned a Ph.D in computer science and has a keen interest in game theory. The 2000 Championship Event was his second bracelet that year, following a $151,000 win in the 7-Card Stud Event. A well-rounded player, his next bracelet was in 2001 in Omaha Hi/Lo Split, followed by three more wins in 2003. Ferguson has an impressive resume beyond the bracelets as he has 42 WSOP money finishes. He finished runner-up to Phil Hellmuth Jr. in the 2005 National Heads-Up Poker Championship. He made the final again in 2006, but again finished 2nd, this time against Ted Forrest.
With a PhD in Computer Science specializing in Artificial Intelligence from UCLA, Chris Ferguson approaches poker from a purely intellectual viewpoint. Ferguson plays poker tournaments exclusively, and can be seen competing at all major World Series of Poker events. He is perhaps poker's most instantly recognizable personality, due to his trademark black wardrobe, long hair and beard, and black cowboy hat. Ferguson is also an accomplished ballroom dancer and master of card tricks.
Chris Ferguson is part of the design team for the Full Tilt Poker, an online poker room that opened in 2004.
Some people might think that there is one basic way to play poker, but there isn't. There are many different styles of play. Two people may be dealt the same hand, play it quite differently, and yet both will be successful. --Chris Ferguson
