Alan Goehring
Alan Goehring was born in 1962 and is a retired junk bond analyst and trader from Henderson, Nevada. Goehring first made an impression on the poker circuit when he finished 3rd in the $3,000 No Limit Hold'Em event at the 1997 World Series of Poker (WSOP). He won $61,845 in the tournament, which included Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Dan Harrington.
But his finest moment on the WSOP tour came in 1999, Goehring finished 2nd in the WSOP $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event to eventual winner Noel Furlong and collected $768,625. In the final hand, Goehring held pocket 6’s to Furlongs pocket 5’s, the flop came out Q-Q-5 giving Furlong a full house. Both checked to the turn card which was a 2. Goehring checked, Furlongs bet, Goehring raised, Furlongs moved all in, Alan called. An 8 on the river and sealed 2nd place for Goehring, and a championship title for Furlong.
Goehring’s winning ways continued as he won the World Poker Tour (WPT) $25,000 season 1 championship, overcoming newcomer Kirill Gerasimov in the eventual heads-up confrontation to take home a $1,011,886 grand prize. The final table also included Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson and Ted Forrest. His total live tournament winnings exceed $5,000,000.
